The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been the heart and spirit of this prestigious institution right from its inception. The department was established in the year 1984 - 1985 and it has an annual intake of 120 students. The department has 26 laboratories and workshops with advanced machine shop facilities as stipulated by AICTE & Anna University. This is the largest Department of the Institution in terms of strength of students, technical staff and faculty. Mechanical Engineering Department is recognized by Anna University as a research centre in the academic year 2015 – 2016 to promote the students for the research and innovative findings.
The department consists of young and energetic team of dedicated faculty members most of whom possess post graduate qualification in their respective fields of specialization. Besides the routine pedagogic work, the faculties are also engaged in research work and presented papers in national conferences and seminars. They have also published papers in the National and International Journals.
It has got wide applications in industry. Mechanical engineers are required in manufacturing, automobile industry, power plants, aviation industry, nuclear energy and all major industries and small scale industries as well as in Government sector. The Department has well developed laboratories, infrastructure and environment to equip the successful Mechanical engineers of tomorrow.
The educational objectives of the Mechanical Engineering Program are to be employed as a practicing engineer in fields such as design, research, development, testing, manufacturing operations and service systems and to assume positions of leadership and responsibility within an organization and progress through advanced degree or certificate programs in engineering, business, and other professionally related fields.

Conducted two days WORKSHOP on “Composites & their Applications in Aerospace & Automotives” on September 2015.
Organized an International Conference on Aeronautical, Mechanical & Civil Engineering “INCAMCE - 15” on March 2015.

Industrial visits are undertaken every year by students.
Academic Achievements:
UG – Mechanical Engineering student Mr. Anu Varghese got the 18th rank in Anna University rank list in the year 2013.
UG – Mechanical Engineering student Ms. Lakshmi Priya got the 34th rank in Anna University rank list in the year 2013.
PG – Mechatronics Engineering student Ms. Seenu won the Gold Medal in the Anna University Examinations Apl/May 2012.
Other Achievements:
UG – Mechanical Engineering student Mr. Gopala Krishnan has bagged the first prize in CAD modeling conducted at St. Mother Teresa Engineering College.
UG – Mechanical Engineering student Mr. Anna Samson Suresh has won first prize in Lathe Machining conducted at DMI Engineering College.

Our students have participated and won awards in tournaments such as Hockey, Cricket, Volley Ball, Basket Ball, Hand Ball, Kho-Kho & Chess in Zonal level, District level, State Level & National Level Competitions organized by Anna University and other reputed Universities.
